INDIAN NATIONAL DIES IN MALAYSIA

Death Of Indian National In Malaysia

In the unfortunate event of the death of an Indian national in Malaysia, please follow the under mentioned procedure:

  • Lodge a report with the police at once
  • Rush the body to the hospital and get a death certificate
  • Inform the next of kin in India
  • Contact a casket company for the embalming of the body
  • Contact any of the airlines flying to India to obtain the airline schedule and book the passage of the casket. Normally the casket is charged by weight by the airline
  • Come to the Indian High Commission with copies of the police report, death certificate, medical certificate and the passport of the deceased
  • The Indian High Commission will attest all the documents, cancel the passport, and issue a No Objection Letter for the body of the deceased to be taken to India
  • In case the body is unclaimed, the Malaysian authorities will dispose it after waiting for a certain period.
  • In case the relatives of the deceased are too poor to afford the paperwork, embalming, transportation etc, the body can be disposed off in Malaysia in accordance to the religion of the deceased.
Please note the Indian High Commission does not have any provision for payment of any expenses with regard to any of the above. Nor can the Indian High Commission take the responsibility of sending back to India, disposal of the body etc of any deceased. The responsibility of doing all this is that of the employer or that of friends and/or relatives. The Indian High Commission only assists in doing all the paperwork required. For cases of death, our officials give priority with regard to the necessary paperwork without charging any emergency fees.
For compensation in case of death arising out of Industrial accidents, the procedure is as per the Malaysian labour law . Indian High Commission can assist in the follow up of such cases, but does not have any jurisdiction to act in case of inadequate or delayed payment of compensation.
