Malaysian Who Dies Abroad

Applies to all Malaysian abroad and in country, moslem or non moslem alike. This information, a download version from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia's website form an easy guideline for any known death be reported to the nearest authority regarding their friends, colleagues, relatives, next of kin, spouses, working, living, studying or on vacation, business and non business abroad. 

Registration of Death
Report death at the nearest Police Station.


Register death at the Malaysian Mission. A copy of the police report is required. Addresses  of Malaysian Missions are available in this website under the topic Malaysia's Missions Worldwide.

Other documents required for the registration are as follows :
    - Original Passport of the deceased
    - Original Identification Card / Birth Certificate of the deceased
    - Copy of the Death Certificate
    - Copy of the Embalming Certificate

Repatriation of Remains
Relative/next of kin in Malaysia report death at the Consular Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the following address :

Information and documents required are as follows :
- Name of the deceased
- Passport and Identification Card Number
- Address of the deceased abroad
- Address in Malaysia
- Occupation
- Cause of death


The Consular Division, with the assistance of the respective Malaysian Mission abroad will investigate the death. Relative/next of kin of the deceased will need to decide the place of burial, abroad or in Malaysia. 


Burial in Malaysia
- The Consular Division, with the assistance of the respective Malaysian
  Mission abroad will obtain the estimated cost of the repatriation which will
  have to deposited by the relative/next of kin to the Consular Division. A
  receipt will be issued.


- The respective Mission will carry out the repatriation process


- The Consular Division will notify the family on the flight details for the arrival
  of the remains.


Burial Abroad
- The Consular Division will instruct the respective Mission to coordinate the
  burial process.


- All cost incurred will have to be borned by the relative/next of kin which have
  to paid to the Consular Division. A receipt will be issued.


- The Consular the Division will submit the following documents to the relative /
  next of kin :
- Acknowledgment letter from the respective Mission
- Certificate of health
- Certificate of Death
- Certificate of Burial
- Death Report
- Copy of Passport / Identification Card (original document will be
  submitted directly to the respective departments in Malaysia)
